Two Plaza scores power Bayside past Madison

Bayside put its name back in city title race.

The Commodores got a late touchdown run from running back Tyrell Plaza to seal an important 22-18 home win over James Madison in PSAL Bowl Conference football last Saturday afternoon.

Plaza carried the ball 17 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns for Bayside (8-1). His team’s lone loss is to Franklin Roosevelt and is one of two one-loss teams in the division. Charles Flug went 12 for 21 passing for 143 yards and Marcus Watson added a score on the ground. Elijah Rimpel made 11 tackles and added an interception.

Erasmus Hall 29, Campus Magnet 6: Que Ruan Mosby went 15 of 28 passing for 157 yards and a touchdown for Campus Magnet (3-5). Bryan Mariner caught four passes for 53 yards and touchdown and Charles Driver had seven receptions for 73 yards. Jeshua Darnell made seven tackles and recovered a fumble.

Christ the King 41, Kennedy Catholic 0: Jamen Williams rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries for Christ the King (6-2, 5-0). Hasan Farraj ran for a score and completed 3 of 5 passes for 71 yards and connected with Brian Diaz and Alex Miranda for scores. Khaleel Small chipped in a rushing score.

Bryant 38, Benjamin Cardozo 13: John Duru rushed for 226 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries and Jovon Hooks Williams carried the ball 10 times for 146 yards and two scores for Bryant (5-3). Raheem Williams ran for 118 yards and a score and also made 11 tackles. Manuel Ritoe rushed for two touchdowns for Cardozo (1-7).

Jamaica 34, Petrides 14: Garfield McDonald carried the ball 16 times for 237 yards and two touchdowns for Jamaica (4-4). Malik Lawrie went 4 of 5 passing for 77 yards and touchdown passes to Carl St. Paul and Jabari Corsfield. St. Paul also added a 50-yard scoring run. Corsfield added 11 tackles.

Christopher Columbus 34, Springfield Gardens 27: Allassane Coulibaly completed 3 of 11 passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns for Springfield Gardens (2-6). Christopher Clarke ran for 66 yards and touchdown on five carries, had a 71-yard touchdown run and returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Tahzjai added a receiving score.

McKee/Staten Island Tech 26, John Adams 12: Errol James rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and caught three passes for 20 yards for John Adams (2-7). Bruno Teran completed 6 of 10 passes for 80 yards. Andre Adams made eight tackles.
