State Sen. Tony Avella has allocated $275,000 toward the revitalization of the Captain Dermody Triangle on 216th Street.
Avella made the announcement with members of the Bayside Hills Civic Association during their annual Spring Festival on Saturday.
The green space, which was named for outspoken abolitionist William C. Dermody, who was killed in the Civil War, is in need of repairs to its sidewalk, lawn and stone monument at the center of the triangle.
“The park deserves it,” said Michael Feiner, president of the Bayside Hills Civic Association. “It’s unbelievable that finally the community of Bayside Hills wins something for a change.”
