The Samuel Field Y held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday to announce more than $850,000 in renovations and upgrades to the Deepdale Pool Club, which under the care of the Y was renamed the Tanenbaum Family Pool.
The Deepdale Pool was a community pool that was not raising the revenue needed to maintain its facilities, but the Samuel Field Y stepped in after last summer to save it from a financial rut.
Because the facilities were always a popular spot in the Little Neck community and beyond, the Tanenbaum family contributed $400,000 to help restore the pool to its original glory.
State Sen. Tony Avella (D-Bayside) allocated a $200,000 state appropriations grant to update the pool to regulatory standards. And state Assemblyman Ed Braunstein (D-Bayside) also managed to allocate $250,000 of state money to make the facilities more handicapped accessible and renovate the second-floor pool equipment storage room into two unisex bathrooms, construction on which is supposed to begin next spring.
The pool is now staffed by the Samuel Field Y and has been open for public use since May 23. Visit the pool at 58-25 Little Neck Parkway, or online at www.sfy.org/
