City Councilman Ruben Wills recently reintroduced his bill, the Community Violence Prevention Act (CVPA), which would establish a commission to find solutions to crime.
Under the CVPA, the city will identify which neighborhoods have the highest rates of violent crime occurrence and evaluate the city’s efforts to find out which conditions lead to violence.
Wills insisted that the CVPA would help determine the cause of violence and lead to a comprehensive strategy that can solve the problem more directly.
“I urge the Council to pass it immediately. Our children and families cannot wait,” he said.
“Councilman Wills’ legislation will pave the way for a definitive plan of action that will keep our kids from ever committing these vicious acts,” Assemblywoman Vivian Cook added.
The commission would be required to report its activities to the mayor and City Council every year.
