Police classified the death of a Woodhaven girl in her home late on Friday night as the city’s first homicide case of the new year.

According to police, officers from the 102nd Precinct responded to a 911 call of an unconscious person inside of a home on 86th Street near 91st Avenue at approximately 10:46 p.m. on Jan. 1.

It is reported that the responding officers observed Joceline Romo lying face down on her bed, unconscious and unresponsive. EMS who also responded pronounced the teenager deceased at the scene, police said.

Her body was transported to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death, law enforcement agents said. Published reports indicated Romo had blunt force trauma to her head and neck compression injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
