Thief punches elderly woman for her purse in Ridgewood: cops

Detectives are looking for a purse snatcher who punched an elderly woman during a robbery in Ridgewood on Sunday night.

According to police, the suspect — described as a black male, between 30 and 35 years of age, weighing between 140 and 150 lbs., and standing 5 feet 8 inches or 5 feet 9 inches tall — approached the 70-year-old female victim in the vicinity of Centre Street and Cypress Avenue at approximately 9:45 p.m.

He then proceeded to punch the victim in the chest, grab her purse off of her shoulder and flee in an unknown direction.

Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to the incident; the woman was not seriously injured.
