Alumni of P.S. 91Q Richard Arkwright School are invited to celebrate the elementary school’s centennial this April.
On Saturday, April 16, P.S. 91 will hold a 100th Anniversary Celebration at the school, located at 68-10 Central Ave. in Glendale, from 3 to 8 p.m. The celebration will include a guided tour of the school, entertainment, live music, dinner and a dance.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m., alumni are invited to watch a performance by the school’s glee club, followed by the guided tour given by P.S. 91’s staff. During the tour, alumni will be able to view items from the time capsule that was placed in the school when it celebrated its 75th anniversary, 25 year ago.
“For the 100th year, we will be preparing another time capsule to be placed in the school as well,” said Karen Coar, member of P.S. 91’s parent teacher association. “The teachers and kids from the school will be putting some ideas on what they would want to put into the time capsule.”
Following the tour, there will be a dinner and dance from 5 to 8 p.m. where alumni will be treated to live music from a DJ, as well as a full buffet catered by Jaques, with desserts, tea and coffee included.
“It will be a great time for alumni to catch up and revisit their childhood,” Coar said. “A lot has changed within the 100 years and we are so interested in hearing about it at the celebration. Past students will be able to say a few words during the dinner about their memories here at 91.”
Tickets to the centennial celebration are $45. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, March 18; they are available on a limited basis.
To purchase tickets, make a personal check or money order payable to P.S. 91 Q, put in memo “100th Year,” and mail to P.S. 91 100th Anniversary Celebration, P.O. Box 790077, Middle Village, NY 11379.
