Following a recent number of random slashing cases across the city, police want to find a man who pulled out a box cutter and frightened a woman on board a train in Richmond Hill earlier this month.
The incident took place at 4 p.m. on Feb. 5 on board a Jamaica Center-bound E train as it entered the Jamaica-Van Wyck station.
According to authorities, a 43-year-old woman witnessed the suspect — described as a black male between 35 and 40 years of age, standing 5 foot 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds — pull a box cutter out of his jacket pocket.
Fearing for her safety, police said, the woman exited the train at the station, but the man remained on board. The woman later reported the incident to police; there were no injuries.
Law enforcement agents said the suspect was last seen wearing a black wool cap, a dark colored bubble coat, dark colored pants and white sneakers.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish speakers, dial 888-57-PISTA), visit their website or send a text message to 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
