By Patrick Donachie

Police were trying to find the driver of a black SUV who they claim struck a pedestrian in South Ozone Park early Sunday morning and then fled the scene.

The police responded to a 911 call of a man hit by a car at the corner of 115th Avenue and 131nd Street at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the NYPD. When they arrived, police found a 43-year-old man on the ground. He was unresponsive and emergency responders later pronounced him dead at the scene.

The man was lying in the westbound lane of 115th Avenue at the time, according to the police, when a black SUV traveling westbound on the same street ran over the man. The individual driving the black SUV then drove away from the scene, according to the NYPD.

The investigation was ongoing and police had not released his name pending family notification.
