A man was struck and killed while walking along the tracks on a westbound Long Island Rail Road in Queens Village on Tuesday evening.
At approximately 5:45 p.m. MTA police found a body on the tracks of the Queens Village LIRR station. A man, who has not been identified, was dead at the scene, an MTA spokesperson said.
The train was traveling to Jamaica and as a result of the incident, power had to be shut down on the westbound track, spokesperson Salvatore Arena said.
Though there were delays, the MTA did not shut down service. At 6:45 p.m., a signal problem occurred at Jamaica Station forced the agency to suspend all service into and out of Penn Station, he said.
Service was restored at approximately 7:30 p.m. with residual delays.
The incident is under investigation, Arena said.
