A woman was not shot in the head during a police-involved shooting in Maspeth on Monday, but a suspected burglar took a bullet to his groin.

Previous reports stated that a woman was wounded in the gunfire, but according to police, the woman was discovered nearly a block away lying in a driveway near her home with a laceration to her head. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition, where they found a piece of cable wire under her scalp.

Police are currently interviewing her to determine how she sustained her injuries.

According to police, officers from the 104th Precinct responded to a burglary in progress on the first floor apartment at 55-38 66th St., off of Hull Avenue, at approximately 1:30 p.m. The 911 caller was monitoring the burglary through a remote camera feed on a cellphone.

After gaining entrance to the house, an officer encountered the 38-year-old male suspect — who has an extensive criminal history of burglary — when a struggle ensued, police said. The officer discharged one round from his service weapon, striking the suspect in the groin.

According to law enforcement agents, the suspect fled the building and was apprehended by police approximately one block away. He was transported to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition.

It was at this time that cops found the woman lying in her driveway with a wound to her head.

No officers were injured in the incident.

All information is preliminary, cops said, and an investigation is ongoing.
