A 31-year-old man who was fatally shot in Richmond Hill early on Monday morning was the city’s first deadly shooting of the new year, according to police.

Law enforcement sources said the victim, Rocky Kalisaran of Lincoln Avenue in Brooklyn, was shot along with a 24-year-old man in front of a home on 124th Street just south of Liberty Avenue just before 3:23 a.m. on Jan. 2.

Published reports indicated that the victims were brothers who were shot during an apparent robbery attempt.

Officers from the 106th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call about shots fired at the location. Upon arrival, the officers found the 31-year-old Kalisaran with gunshot wounds to his chest and the 24-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his back.

Both men were taken to Jamaica Hospital, where Kalisaran was pronounced dead; the other victim was listed in stable condition.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
