Man who burgalized nine homes in Elmhurst/Flushing gets 9-years prison, according to Queens DA

A man who burglarized nine homes throughout Elmhurst and Flushing last fall has been sentenced to nine years in prison, announced Queens District Attorney Richard Brown today.

Maspeth resident Juan Cuervo, 54, pleaded guilty last month to second-degree burglary and was sentenced to nine years in prison with five years of post-release supervision on Friday.

According to the charges, he burglarized nine homes in Elmhurst and Flushing Between September and December of last year, stealing an array of items, including a camera, silver coins, jewelry and cash.

“The defendant broke into the homes of various people – victims who had their private and personal spaces invaded by a stranger – and ransacked their residences and stole their property. The defendant admitted his guilt and has now been sentenced to a lengthy term of incarceration,” Brown said.

Cuervo was arrested in December when he was caught trying to burglarize 53-08 80th Street. Police observed him entering the house and leaving with a messenger bag before he was arrested.
