A Jackson Heights middle school teacher was arrested for twisting a student’s hand so hard that sprained the child’s finger, law enforcement sources said.
Police were called to I.S. 145 (the Joseph Pulitzer Middle School) at 33-34 80th St. on Wednesday, April 26. Upon their arrival, officers from the 115th Precinct learned that Ramiro Cruz, 52, who teaches at the school, allegedly grabbed a 13-year-old student’s left hand and twisted his arm.
The youngster suffered swelling and a sprained middle finger as a result of the assault, authorities said. It is unclear why Cruz grabbed the child by the arm.
Cruz was taken into custody on an assault charge, police said. The New York Daily News reported that Cruz was later released with a desk appearance ticket. According to the Department of Education, Cruz has been reassigned to a central location.
