A Sunnyside-based legislator is working again to make sure kids in need in western Queens have a backpack full of school supplies for this coming school year.

On Aug. 8, City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer partnered with the Queens Library to launch the 8th Annual Back to School Supplies Drive for kids around western Queens.

From now until Sept. 5, members of the community can drop off school supplies, such as backpacks, calculators, notebooks, pencils, crayons, and rulers, to various locations in Queens. The supplies will be distributed to children in District 26 before the start of the school year on Sept. 7.

“No child should have to go to school without the supplies they need to do their best,” said Van Bramer. “With the upcoming school year fast approaching, many families in our community struggle with the cost of supplies that are required and have to make tough choices that could leave a child without necessarily supplies like notebooks, a backpack, or a calculator. Each and every child deserves to walk into school with the dignity and confidence that comes from a full backpack.”

Members of the community can donate supplies to Van Bramer’s district office, located at 47-01 Queens Blvd., Suite 205, or to the following Queens Library Locations:

  • Sunnyside: 43-06 Greenpoint Ave.
  • Woodside: 54-22 Skillman Ave.
  • Long Island City: 37-44 21st Street.
  • Court Square: 25-01 Jackson Ave.
  • Broadway: 40-20 Broadway

“I encourage anyone who can donate supplies to stop by my district office in Sunnyside or one of the five Queens Library locations until Sept. 5,” added Van Bramer. “Your help will make a real difference and give each child in our community the tools to learn, grow, and succeed.”
