Princess Cyd — It is summertime, and 16-year-old Cyd decides to take a break from her depressive single father and spend time in Chicago with her aunt Miranda. Soon after her arrival, Cyd encounters a young barista named Katie, and their low-key connection quickly becomes something more charged. As Cyd and Katie navigate their new attraction, Miranda sorts through her own complicated relationships, which are brought into higher contrast by Cyd’s youthful curiosity and daring.

Sesame Street: The Parodies — A rollicking compendium of some of the most memorable music, movie, and TV show parodies from Sesame Street. From classics like “Born to Add” to the more recent “Upside Downton Abbey” and Cookie Monster’s “Crumby Pictures,” the creative team at Sesame Workshop has poked fun at pop culture since 1969 and is still going strong.

When: Saturday, Nov. 11, and Sunday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m.

Wildlife Weekend — Have fun learning about interesting critters at this pay-one-price event. Admission includes Birds of Prey show, Frogs, Bugs, & Animals show, hayrides, animal feeding, and pony rides (80-pound rider limit).

Historic New York Fort Totten Tunnel Tour — Tour the “hidden” areas of the Fort Totten battery with the Urban Park Rangers. Registration is required and participants are chosen via a lottery. To register, please visit the registration page at www1.nyc.gov/reg/rangers.

Community Super “Bowl” — Bring a frozen turkey in support of Queens communities and come join the fun. Bowling and shoes included with the donation of a 12-17-pound frozen turkey.

Then and Now: Bayside and Flushing — Historian Jason Antos will lead this interactive lecture on the history of Bayside and Flushing and the Native Americans who inhabited the area. Enjoy apple cider — spiked or plain — and refreshments. The program is for adults only.

Astronomy Night — One of the longest-running astronomy programs in the city, now in its 20th year, will be led by seasoned professor/astronomer Mark Freilich. Each program features an indoor question-and-answer session on basic astronomy, followed by exciting outdoor viewing using a professional telescope. Participants are welcome to bring their own telescopes and binoculars. Limited to 20 participants ages 9 and up, including adults.

Music

Astoria Big Band — Founded in 1986 by baritone saxophonist Carol Sudhalter, the Astoria Big Band presents the music of Queens’ greats including Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, Jutta Hipp, Big Nick Nicholas, Sarah McLawler, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, and more. Fronting the band is a group of swing dancers, the Big Apple Lindy Hoppers, who bring zest, color and movement to this already engaging performance.
