Police arrested a man who allegedly impersonated a police officer in Richmond Hill and tried to solicit money and sexual favors from a teenage girl.
According to police, at 9:53 a.m. on March 27, the 17-year-old girl was walking in the vicinity of 123rd Street and 89th Avenue when she was approached by Devenish Seecharan, 25, who identified himself as a police officer. He told the girl that she was truant and to get into his car.
Once she was in the car, which police say was a volunteer ambulatory vehicle, Seecharan allegedly told the victim, “If I do you a favor, you have do me a favor,” and that in order to make this go away, she’d have to give him $200-$300.
The victim did not have the money, and Seecharan then suggested sexual favors as an alternative. PIX 11 reported that the victim, who realized that something wasn’t right, then secretly called her brother and spoke in a way that indicated that she was in trouble.
Seecharan eventually told the victim to get out of the car and drove away. The incident, which lasted until 10:21 a.m., was then reported to the 102nd Precinct.
PIX 11 originally reported that police were able to track Seecharan’s car back to an auto body shop where Seecharan works through surveillance video.
Seecharan was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and was charged with impersonating a police officer, grand larceny, harassment and unlawful imprisonment.
