For some free fun in Long Island City, head to the 5th annual LIC Springs block party this Saturday, hosted by LIC Partnership.
The event is happening on Saturday, May 12 from noon to 5 p.m. on Vernon Blvd. between 46th and 50th Avenues. This family-friendly block party features several activities, including live music, dance and theater performances, art and sculpture making, fitness classes, outdoor dining and sports. Attendees include over 100 LIC-based businesses including Corner Bistro, Gantry Bar and Kitchen, Paint Power, The Chocolate Factory, Pilates Works and Vernon Grille. There will be several live performances at this year’s event, including Bollywood, Salsa and Modern dance from St. John’s Prep, a Taekwondo demonstration from Tiger J Taekwondo and a Children’s Choir performance from LIC Sing.
People of all ages are sure to find activities to do, from decorating flower pots and planting vegetables with LIC Kids Gymnastics to pasta and gelato eating competitions hosted by Manducatis Rustica.
LIC Partnership is also calling for volunteers in high school or older to help before, during and after the event. Responsibilities include chalking the streets before the event, helping vendors get set up, surveying attendees and sharing event details throughout the day, plus managing clean up and break down at the end of the day.
