Missing College Point teacher from Kew Gardens dies hiking upstate: NYPD

A music teacher who lived in Kew Gardens and taught in College Point who had been missing since May 4 died while hiking on a Hudson Valley trail this weekend, police said.

Keith Johnson, 46, was discovered on a hiking trail near the Ulster County town of Shandaken unresponsive and suffering from hypothermia and exposure, police said. Johnson died before paramedics could reach him and he was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

His 2006 Hyundai Elantra was found several miles away at the Woodland Valley trailhead. It was the same vehicle he was last seen crossing over the outbound Throgs Neck Bridge May 5, according to the NYPD.

Johnson had been a music teacher at PS 29 in College Point since 2000, according to the city Department of Education, and counselors were available for students and DOE spokesman said.

No one has been arrested and the investigation was ongoing, according to the NYPD.
