A man was struck by a train early this morning near the Kew Gardens Long Island Rail Road station, slowing service on the Main Line for thousands of commuters.
According to the FDNY, a call came in at 11:49 a.m. regarding the incident at 82-71 Grenfell St., near the Kew Gardens stop. Upon their arrival, they learned that a man had been hit by an oncoming train.
The victim, who has yet to be identified, was declared dead at the scene. The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
The LIRR tweeted that there was a delay in service between Penn Station and Jamaica due to an unauthorized person being hit by a train following the incident.
The LIRR is experiencing delays averaging 10-15 minutes in both directions between Penn Station and Jamaica due to an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a train west of Kew Gardens.
