An Astoria woman who has been missing from her home since July 14 has been found in a Brooklyn hospital.

Jazmin Fernandez Almanzar, 24, was reported missing from her home near Kaufman Astoria Studios on 35th Avenue. The woman lives with her mother Yoberida Caraballo and stepfather. Officers at the 114th Precinct said that a missing persons report was filed on July 14.

According to Stefani Tou, a family friend and neighbor, Almanzar was found at Kings County Hospital on July 18. Tou said that the young woman asked about 40 people on the street if she could call an ambulance using their phones. All but one refused.

Tou mentioned that Almanzar is “extremely bad psychologically” and that her family requested for their daughter to be transferred to a Queens hospital. The family’s neighbor added that there was a possibility Almanzar would be transferred to a closer hospital this weekend.

The young woman came to Astoria with her family from the Dominican Republic when she was 17 years old. According to Tou, Almanzar began to suffer from severe depression from the first year she moved here. Tou said that her condition worsened with each passing year and that Almanzar did not have any friends.

At the time that she went missing, the young woman was last seen wearing a black baseball hat, pink T-shirt, grey jacket, black leggings and black sneakers. She was reportedly not carrying any money with her.

Family and friends were circulating Facebook posts with photos of Almanzar in hopes of finding her. One post from Facebook user Doll Rios said that the young woman may be feeling “confused and lost.”
