The Queens community will gather on the steps of Borough Hall tonight for an interfaith vigil to honor the victims of the shootings in Pittsburgh and Jeffersontown, Kentucky.
The gathering, dubbed “Queens Against Hate: Candlelight Vigil,” is intended to honor the victims’ memory and to act as a gesture of solidarity in response to the two hate crimes, according to the Queens Borough President’s office.
The event will include the reading of the names of the eleven people killed at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh and the two African Americans murdered in a supermarket in Kentucky.
The vigil will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Queensborough Hall at 120-55 Queens Blvd.
The event is being organized by Queens Borough President Melinda Katz as well as other elected officials, community leaders and advocates.
“In times of such darkness, may our unity light the way,” Katz said in a statement. “Join fellow New Yorkers across all faiths and backgrounds to stand together in solidarity as one.”
