Far Rockaway Library’s service will resume at a temporary space Tuesday as its original building gets reconstructed for a state-of-the-art replacement, according to Queens Library.
The library, located at 1637 Central Avenue, is being rebuilt from a single-story 9,000-sqaure-foot brick building and will be erected as a 18,000-square-foot pyramidal structure with a glass curtain wall.
In the meantime, starting Nov. 13 at 1 p.m., bibliophiles will be temporarily served at 1003 Beach 20th St. in Far Rockaway, according to Queens Library spokeswoman Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska.
The new Far Rockaway Library is slated to open in three years and is being erected by EW Howell Construction Group with a design from Norwegian architectural firm in Oslo called Snøhetta, according to spokeswoman Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska.
Service at the temporary space will follow the Far Rockaway Library’s previous hours going forward.
