A 29-year-old man was struck dead by a hit-and-run driver on Continental Avenue yesterday while he was crossing the street.
Niklas Ahern, a Manhattan resident, was hit at the intersection of Continental Avenue and Slocum Crescent at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday by an unidentified driver.
Police arrived on the scene and discovered Ahern unconscious and unresponsive, lying on the roadway with trauma to his head and body. EMS transported him to Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to a police investigation, Ahern was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Continental Avenue while he was crossing from the northeast corner of the Exeter Street-Continental intersection to the southwest corner of the Slocum Crescent-Continental Avenue intersection.
The vehicle continued traveling northbound and did not stop.
There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
