A new Mediterranean restaurant has recently opened on an Austin Street corner.

OBA Mediterranean, located at 70-35 Austin St., officially opened on Dec. 11, replacing the former Vanilla Sky frozen yogurt shop that closed in 2017.

The 1,700 square foot space, owned by Turkish business partners Berkan Dinc, Fayran Fay, and Chef Aydin Ay, serves traditional Mediterranean dishes in a menu that spans from soups, salads, kebabs and other hot entrees.

Menu items range from $6.25 to about $30 for larger kebab platters.

Fay, who also owns two Mediterranean restaurants in Brooklyn, opened the Forest Hills site at a time when demand for the cuisine is high, according to Aric Trakhtenberg, the broker who secured the establishment’s retail lease.

“The restaurant will be an excellent addition to Forest Hills,” said Trakhtenberg. “It is ideally located on the corner of ‘restaurant row’ on Austin Street, capturing the extreme foot traffic and servicing the dense residential population [there].”

According to current manager, Cagdaf Gomez, the 33- seat restaurant’s best selling item is the “mixed grill” option, which consists of Chicken Shish, Lamb Shish, Lamb Adana, Kofte Kebab, and a lamb gyro with rice and a salad.

“The people wanted fresh Mediterranean food in the area,” Gomez said. “Since we opened the first day, we have been packed.”

The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week.
