A Briarwood man faces murder and manslaughter charges in the deadly stabbing of his son-in-law during an apparent dispute in their apartment on Thursday night.
Police reported that the incident occurred just after 8 p.m. on Jan. 24 inside an apartment building near 139th and Main Streets, across the street from the Archbishop Molloy High School campus.
When officers from the 107th Precinct arrived on the scene, they discovered Travis Ford, 31, with stab wounds to his abdomen and face. It’s not known as of yet what weapon was used in the deadly assault.
Sources familiar with the case said that the events leading up to the stabbing were “domestic in nature” and a report said that the suspect was the victim’s father-in-law, Marco Ortiz, 45, who lived at the location. The New York Daily News reported that Ortiz and Ford had became embroiled in a dispute over Ford’s alleged drinking habits.
EMS personnel transported Ford to Jamaica Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Ortiz was charged on Friday night with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
