A mom-and-pop home furnishing store that has served Queens residents for four generations will close before the end of the year.
The Fair, located at 71-03 80th Street at the Shops at Atlas Park in Glendale, will shut its doors sometime before Dec. 31.
A fixture in the community, the store was first opened by Sidney Gerson in 1938 in a 800-square-foot shop on Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood, selling curtains and drapes.
Gerson named his shop after the World’s Fair, which came to the borough the following year.
The Fair, which is still owned by the family, expanded to a full home furnishing store in the 1950s.
It has served second, third and fourth generations of customers with products for their homes for 82 years. The shop was located at 58-09 Myrtle Ave for decades before relocating to Atlas Park in 2007.
Large chain competitors such as Home Goods and Ashley HomeStore opened at Atlas Park in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
There is no set date for the closure at this point, said owner and grandson of the store’s founder, Daniel Gerson.
Gerson said the family is closing The Fair for “many reasons,” but didn’t elaborate.
While The Fair Home’s physical store is closing, the business will continue to do custom window treatments.

“It’s been 82 years in the neighborhood and it’s just time,” Gerson said.
“We’re very happy and proud to be serving the community for generations,” he added. “We appreciate all our customers’ loyalty and business.”
