Two young boys were hospitalized Christmas Day after falling through the ice on a pond in Forest Park.

A 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy were walking on the ice covering Strack Pond in the park, when the ice cracked and gave way sending the boys into the chilly waters below around 3 p.m., police said.

Both the boys were taken to Jamaica Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, a NYPD spokesperson said.

Before first responders arrived, a third boy rescued the pair who had fallen into the water by passing them a red emergency Parks Department ladder, the New York Post reported.

A year ago, a 11-year-old boy from Glendale died after falling through the ice on the same pond. He was attempting to rescue his 12-year-old friend who had first fallen through.

The NYPD discourages people from walking on ice and frozen ponds, a police spokesperson said.
