South Jamaica man arrested, charged with murder in shooting of Long Islander

A 19-year-old South Jamaica man was arrested early Tuesday, Aug. 10, and charged with murder in the shooting death of a Long Island man last month.

Police cuffed Edson Giron Figueroa of 108th Avenue after he was identified as the shooter who allegedly opened fire on 25-year-old Albert Carrasco Serrato of Elmont early in the morning of July 24.

A ShotSpotter activation sent cops to the vicinity of 105-23 150th St. just before 3 a.m. Upon arrival, police discovered Serrato unconscious and lying on 105th Street with gunshot wounds to the head and torso, according to the NYPD.

EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Figueroa was charged with murder, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, and his arraignment in Queens Criminal Court is pending.
