Southeast Queens residents participated in Councilman I. Daneek Miller’s annual Family Fun Day BBQ and Back-to-School Giveaway in Wayanda Park in Queens Village on Saturday, Aug. 21.
Families enjoyed free hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream, music and activities including two jumbo-sized bounce houses.
As part of the annual tradition, students in attendance were provided with free supplies as they prepare to return to the classroom for in-person learning in September.
Vaccination and PPE distributed by the NYC Department of Health were also available to the community. DSNY representatives were also on site to discuss composting with local residents.
“Each year, we strive to provide an outlet for local families to utilize local parks around the district, while also enjoying free food and entertainment for the whole family,” Miller said.
In June, Miller hosted his Family Skate Day in St. Albans Park, and next month he’ll present the third and final event of the Family Fun series of the summer on Sept. 18 at Detective Keith L. Williams Park located at Liberty Avenue and 173rd Street in Jamaica. That event will run from noon to 4 p.m.
