A Kew Gardens Hills man died Thursday three weeks after he was involved in a collision while trying to navigate his way through a traffic labyrinth at Flushing Meadows Corona Park last month, according to the NYPD.
Diego Delgado, 63, of 77th Avenue, was driving a box truck just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24 when he slammed into another truck.
Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision at Horace Harding Expressway and College Point Boulevard when they found Delgado with trauma to his body.
EMS rushed the Kew Gardens Hills man to New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Queens where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, June 9.
Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 28-year-old driver of a 2012 Mack tractor-trailer had just exited the Long Island Expressway onto College Point Boulevard and was traveling on the Horace Harding Expressway when he came to a stop at a red light.
Delgado was driving a 2004 Nissan box truck along Horace Harding Expressway when he smashed into the rear of the tractor-trailer and became pinned inside his vehicle. The driver of the Mack tractor-trailer was not injured in the collision, police said.
