A man was crushed to death in Maspeth Tuesday evening beneath a truck he had been napping under, according to the NYPD.
Police from the 108th Precinct in Long Island City responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian just before 7 p.m. at the southeast corner of Mt. Zion Cemetery. They found an unidentified man in his 30s lying on the roadway with trauma to the body, according to the NYPD.
EMS responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Squad determined that a 2008 Ford F-350 truck, with a 42-year-old man behind the wheel, was pulling out from a parking space alongside Mt. Zion Cemetery near the intersection of Maurice Avenue and 54th Avenue when the driver of the vehicle rolled over the victim with the right rear tire.
Investigators said the man was lying underneath the vehicle “for unknown reasons” at the time of the incident.
The driver remained at the scene and was uninjured. There was no arrest and the investigation remains ongoing, according to the NYPD.
