On Saturday, Sept. 10, a Ditmars Blvd Open Street event will recognize the achievements of local women business owners, leaders, and artists between Ditmars Boulevard and 35th Avenue in Astoria.

Ditmars Blvd open street program is run by The Brass Owl & Queens Room (both feminine owners) who hold a deep passion for giving back to the community. Another sponsor is Cobble, an app helping to connect people to different events happening in the city. They want to signify the Astoria-Ditmars neighborhood and promote local businesses.

“Women account for 13.4% of entrepreneurial activity in the U.S. Any opportunity to pull together strong women leaders to showcase their talent, ingenuity, and contributions to the community is cause for celebration,” said co-producer of the event, Jennah Vox.

Starting at 2 p.m., The Rolling Library will be offering free books to the Astoria-Ditmars community. Later, from 4 – 9 p.m., bring your own lawn chairs and settle in for live music performances from Raising Daughters, Brook Wood, 2queers2furious, and Jennah Vox. The event is free and includes visual artists, wears of local healing, tarot readings, and also food & drink from local restaurants available for purchase.

Attendees are encouraged to partake in the food drive for the Astoria Food Pantry and bring canned goods or cleaning and hygiene supplies. For a list of acceptable donations and items in high demand, check out the list here: https://www.astoriafoodpantry.com/donate.html

“There are some amazing women doing awesome work in the Astoria community, from curating, to entertaining, to feeding Astoria; these ladies do it all,” Vox said.
