A Maspeth woman was found dead in her own home on 56th Drive with a gunshot wound to her head.

The victim’s father requested that police from the 104th Precinct in Ridgewood perform a wellness check on his 23-year-old daughter, Alexa Ruiz, just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, according to an NYPD spokeswoman. Upon arrival at the woman’s apartment near 59th Place, officers found Ruiz unconscious and unresponsive, lying inside a first-floor bedroom.

EMS responded to the scene and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Further investigation determined that the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the back of the head, police said. The motive is unknown, according to the spokeswoman, who added that there are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
