The Woodhaven Business Improvement District (BID) kicked off its Taste of Woodhaven event aimed at promoting local restaurants along Jamaica Avenue on Monday, May 22.
The weeklong event features 17 dine-in restaurants serving a variety of foods at specialty prices and continues until Monday, May 29.
For Caridad Restaurant, on 90-19 Jamaica Ave., a choice of rotisserie chicken or chicken stew with rice and beans, salad, or tostones only costs $8. At Cevi’s Louisiana, on 94-02 Jamaica Ave., two pieces of grilled chicken with two sides costs $8.49.
John Perricone, the executive director of Woodhaven BID, said the goal of the event was to help dine-in restaurants get more customers.
“It’s really just a way that we’re trying to get more people to become aware of the restaurants that we have down here,” Perricone said. “We like to say that there’s a diversity in cuisine that we have. I would say that the majority of our businesses down here are Hispanic-owned and [there are] different Latin flavors.”
The Woodhaven BID, in partnership with Councilwoman Joann Ariola and the Queens Chamber of Commerce, provided participating eateries with tote bags for distribution to any customers who dine at these restaurants throughout the week.
“The Taste of Woodhaven is a really wonderful event that gives local residents an opportunity to try out new restaurants that they might never have been to before,” Ariola said in a statement to QNS. “This area has so much to offer and many might not necessarily know about all of the great places to eat right here in their own neighborhood. Through this event, we can help connect people with businesses in ways that otherwise might not be possible.”
The list of participating eateries includes the following: Antojitos de San Cecilio; Brisas del Mar; Cancun Cafe; Caridad Restaurant; Cevi’s Louisiana; Chef Toribio; Cuenca Coffee Shop; Duran (Tavares) Restaurant; El Anzuelo Fino; El Puerto Mexicano II; La Comadre; La Embajada; La Hueca Guayaca; Pop’s Cocina & Bar; Royal Chifa; Tajadas Bakery and Restaurant and Tropical Restaurant.
