A 17-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday, June 20, and charged with attempted murder after a school safety agent identified him as a suspect who was sought in connection with a 2022 South Jamaica shooting that left a fellow teenager hospitalized, according to authorities.
Police say the teen, along with three accomplices, allegedly approached a 17-year-old boy in front of 150-42 118th Ave. in South Jamaica — within the confines of the 113th Precinct — at approximately 5 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2022. Two of the suspects allegedly fired shots at the victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh, according to authorities. The suspects then fled the scene.
EMS arrived at the scene and transported the victim to Long Island Jewish Hospital in stable condition.
Police had previously released surveillance video of the shooting, which shows the group of four approach the victim before shots were fired.
All of the suspects had dark complexions and slim builds. Each were wearing face masks.
Police arrested one of the suspects on June 20 after receiving a tip from a school safety agent. A police spokesman would not say at what school the safety agent was stationed and said the arrested suspect’s identity is being withheld because he is a minor.
The cuffed teen is facing charges of attempted murder, assault, criminal use of a fire arm and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Police are still searching for the three other suspects in connection with the shooting.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear at this time, according to a police spokesperson, who said the investigation is ongoing.
