Families packed Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village for a chance to watch The Ultimate Disney Tribute Band: The Little Mermen perform a live sing-along concert on Monday, July 10.

Councilman Robert Holden, alongside the Queensborough Performing Arts Center, organized the event and invited residents to enjoy the Disney cover band play live on stage.

“Our recent performance in Queens’ Juniper Valley Park was an absolute blast! We have the wonderful Queens Performing Arts Center to thank for providing this unique opportunity for folks to come together for a free concert in the park,” said Alexis Babini, band leader for The Little Mermen.

Babini is the band leader and founder of The Little Mermen, bringing Disney-inspired nostalgia and live singalongs to generations that grew up on Disney movie classics from “Pinocchio” to “Toy Story” and more. They even sing some of the newer hits from the movies “Frozen,” “Moana” and “Encanto.”

“As the Ultimate Disney Tribute Band, we always aim to provide an experience at our shows that is perhaps only comparable to visiting the theme parks! It’s a treat to rock out to our favorite Disney moments, allowing audiences to relive the emotions associated with these iconic songs in a fresh new way,” Babini added.

One of the great parts of bringing these classic Disney songs on stage includes connecting with generations of Disney fans and those introducing new generations to the Disney magic, Babini said.

“The universal appeal of this music allows us to connect with a wide range of people who share the same love for it. I love seeing grandparents get on their feet and bust out dance moves to our rock & roll version of I Wan’na Be Like You (The Monkey Song from The Jungle Book).” Babini said. “Believe it or not, we recently shared a festival stage with Green Day and this fall we’re headed to the main stage of the Texas State Fair with acts like Lil’ Jon and 38 Special – It doesn’t get more mixed than that!”

The Little Mermen began their tour across the U.S. this month and will perform next in Van Wert Ohio, on Friday, July 14. Babini said the band can’t wait to return to Queens and will love to consider returning to Middle Village in the future.
