St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children held its first-ever prom on Aug. 29 for the young adults who are part of the Medical Day Healthcare Program.
Attendees were entertained with a DJ, dancing, a photo booth and dessert table. Both the patients and staff from the program who were on hand had the opportunity to enjoy taking part in this and socialize with each other.
The Medical Day Healthcare Program assists children and young adults who have cognitive and physical disabilities. These patients are provided with the therapeutic and rehabilitative services that they need. The program also grants them the opportunity to take part in fun social functions and befriend each other.
Meant for young adults up to the age of 30, the Medical Healthcare Program provides services focused on generating life skills as well as improving independence within the community. Accomplishing this helps them in improving their overall quality of life.

St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children is New York City’s only center for pediatric long-term and rehabilitative care. It has been serving the most critically ill and injured children of New York City since the 1870s. From its in-patient hospital facility at 29-01 216th St. in Bayside, as well as home care services and community programs, St. Mary’s provides a continuum of care to kids dealing with medically complex conditions.
