The FDNY battled a two-alarm fire at a Richmond Hill machine shop on Tuesday night and fire marshals are investigating its cause.
Firefighters from Engine Company 285 and Ladder Company 142 arrived to find heavy smoke emanating from the garage area in a one-story brick building that is part of the Logan Bus Co. complex at 97-14 Atlantic Ave. at 10:37 p.m.
A second alarm was transmitted at 10:48 p.m. bringing a total of 106 firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene along with 25 units after they noticed a truck on fire in the bay producing the heavy smoke condition.
Firefighters rapidly deployed three hose lines to aggressively knock down the main body of the fire which was brought under control at 11:31 p.m., according to the FDNY. Searches throughout the complex yielded negative results for trapped workers at the location. No FDNY personnel was injured during the blaze and its cause is under investigation by fire marshals.
