A 68-year-old Kew Gardens Hills woman was struck and killed as she tried to cross Main Street a half block from her 62nd Road home on Thursday night.

Police from the 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck in front of 62-05 Main St. at around 8:14 p.m. and found Zhong Rong Lu lying on the roadway with trauma to her head and body.

EMS arrived on the scene and transported the 68-year-old to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short while later, police said.

Further investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad determined that the victim was crossing Main Street eastbound towards Queens College when she was struck by the driver of a Toyota sedan who was traveling northbound on Main Street toward the Long Island Expressway. The 63-year-old motorist remained on scene and was not arrested, police said.

The investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad remains ongoing.
