Detectives at the 113th Precinct in Jamaica are investigating a fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in Springfield Gardens on Thursday. Police responded to a 911 call of a shooting victim at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center just before 10:30 p.m., where they were met by medical personnel who told them that the victim had been transported there by private means with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the man was shot inside a home at 178-16 Leslie Rd. in Springfield Gardens. The victim was subsequently pronounced dead, police said.

An NYPD spokeswoman said the motive for the fatal shooting has not yet been determined and the victim’s identity is pending proper family notification. She added that there are no arrests and the homicide investigation remains ongoing.

It is the first murder in the 113th Precinct so far in 2024, according to the most recent Compstate report. Through Mar. 17, the 113th Precinct has reported 3 shooting victims so far this year, 2 fewer than the 5 reported at the same point in 2023, a decline of 40%, according to CompStat.
