Local women-owned gems for the perfect Mother’s Day present

Many of us procrastinate when any holiday rolls around, and Mother’s Day is usually no exception. We keep putting “get mom a gift” on our to-do list and somehow still end up in the crowded aisle of a convenience store on the day of.

This year, try something different by being prepared and impressing your mom with a special and unique gift from one of these women-owned businesses. From visual artists to jewelry makers, each business has something special to offer.

Filthy Mari Atelier

Mari Atelier is a LIC-based artist who creates earrings using polymer clay. Her line features everything from strawberries to fortune cookies, cats, moons and much more. Many of her items are made in small batches to reduce waste, so each collection is unique and makes for a perfect and special gift.

Talisa Almonte is an illustrator and graphic artist from Astoria who uses her artwork to create everything from shirts to mugs, prints, keychains, pins, cards and more. Much of her work is inspired by her Dominican roots, bright colors and retro aesthetic.
