Queens College and NYC Parks are collaborating for a borough-wide cultural initiative that will be running through October.

The partnership will host a launch event on Thursday, June 27, and aims to promote cultural vibrancy in Queens through free performances and workshops focused on music, dance and visual arts.

The launch event is free and will be held at the Archie Springer Park Great Lawn, located at 169th Street, Merrick Blvd and Marne Place. Featured speakers include Queens Borough Commissioner of NYC Parks Jacqueline Langsam, Queens College President Frank H. Wu,  Flushing Town Hall Executive Director Ellen Kodadek and local elected officials. Attendees can enjoy jazz performances by the Queens College Aaron Copland School of Music Jazz Trio and the Antonio Hart Quartet.

The collaboration includes the Queens Jazz Trail concert series sponsored by Queens College’s Kupferberg Center for the Arts, featuring performances by emerging and professional musicians from the Queens College School of the Arts.

Residents interested in outdoor activities can participate in events offered by the college’s Godwin-Ternbach Museum. Events will also take place in Alley Pond Park, Crocheron Park, Forest Park, Highland Park and parks in southeast Queens and the Rockaways.

So far, highlights of the ongoing initiative include the Beach Opening Ceremony at Rockaway Beach that was held in May, and Saturday music performances at Dinkins’ Circle in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
