In honor of the 110th Anniversary of “Bayside Day,” the community will gather on Saturday, Sep. 14, from 2-5 p.m. to celebrate with free activities and live music.

The occasion will also mark the 60th anniversary of the Bayside Historical Society, which will host the day’s festivities at The Castle in Fort Totten, where the organization is headquartered.

On the lawn overlooking Little Bay, there will be outdoor lawn games along with kids games and crafts. Food will be available for purchase and refreshments will also be served in commemorative keepsake cups.

Live music from the 60s will be performed by Chicken Head Rocks, a rock and blues band that frequently performs in Bayside and out on Long Island. One of the band members is Paul DiBenedetto, the current BHS president and chairperson of Community Board 11.

Bayside Day was first established in 1914 by the Bayside Civic Association, which is no longer running.

According to archival records, the program from the original celebration, on Sep. 26, 1914, kicked off with a children’s and babies’ parade. At the time, the “Queen of Bayside” also led the automobile parade in a decorated float.

Attendees interested in learning more about the history of Bayside will also be invited to tour the BHS castle where more historic photos are on display. Trivia fans will have the chance to put their Bayside knowledge to the test and compete for prizes.

Those interested in attending the Bayside Day Celebration are encouraged to RSVP online.

In case of rain or other inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled for Sunday, Sep. 15.
