St. John’s Episcopal Hospital on the Rockaway Peninsula has received $500,000 in funding from New York State Assemblymember Stacey Pheffer Amato, which will advance the hospital’s efforts to improve women’s healthcare services.
The funds will support the construction of the hospital’s new Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) unit, a project that promises to bring state-of-the-art maternity care to the community.
The check presentation ceremony took place on Aug. 6, where Pheffer Amato expressed her ongoing commitment to the hospital’s growth and development. “It’s my pleasure to donate $500,000 to make sure this unit is everything you want it to be,” Pheffer Amato said. “This is a magnificent health facility, and I am so proud to continue supporting every inch of its growth.”
Construction on the LDRP unit began in May. Once completed, it aims to offer enhanced comfort, privacy and continuity of care for mothers and babies. The new facility, which is expected to be finished by the end of 2025, will also provide specialized services for those who require additional support during labor and delivery.
“We are incredibly grateful to NYS Assemblysember Stacey Pheffer Amato for her ongoing support of EHS and the construction of St. John’s Episcopal Hospital’s new state-of-the-art LDRP unit,” said Donald T. Morrish, MD, MMM, Chief Executive Officer of Episcopal Health Services. “This generous contribution will significantly bolster EHS’ ongoing efforts to enhance women’s healthcare services and address the critical needs on the Rockaway Peninsula and beyond.”
The donation marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s ongoing efforts to provide top-tier healthcare to the local community, a sentiment echoed by Jacqueline Marecheau, MD, FACOG, Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at EHS. “With construction of our LDRP unit now underway, this donation marks an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare services for women and families in the Rockaways,” she said. “We deeply appreciate the continued efforts and contributions from Assemblymember Pheffer Amato, our community, government partners and private donors.”
