Two local organizations hosted the Howl-O-Ween Parade and Costume Contest on Saturday, bringing over a hundred costumed pets, their owners, and families to Kew Gardens for a festive afternoon of fun, fur, and fall spirit.
Organized by We Are Kew Gardens and The Forest Park Barking Lot, the event kicked off with registration at 12:30 p.m., followed by a lively parade and costume contest at 1 p.m.
“This year’s Howl-o-ween parade and costume contest was a great opportunity to host our local small businesses as pop-ups, to see nearly 150 dogs in amazing costumes, and to enjoy our close-knit community of dog parents,” said Chris Kelly, President of the Forest Park Barking Lot.
Dressed in costumes ranging from classic witches and superheroes to creative, custom-made ensembles, pets and their owners strolled through the area, drawing smiles and cheers from spectators along the route. At 1:30 p.m., prizes were awarded to standout participants, with categories recognizing originality, craftsmanship, and the pet-owner duos that captured the crowd’s hearts. Local businesses also participated in the festivities with pop-up booths, offering treats and pet supplies for attendees.
The event’s sponsors included Crunch Gym, Fat Puppies, and other local businesses, each contributing to a memorable celebration highlighting the community’s love for pets and seasonal festivities.
“Seeing everyone come together with their pets in these amazing costumes really showcases the spirit of Kew Gardens,” one attendee said. “It’s a great reminder of the vibrant community we have here.”
The Howl-O-Ween Parade continues to grow each year, cementing itself as a beloved neighborhood tradition that combines creativity, community, and a little bit of spooky charm.
