Elected officials in some Queens districts announced Halloween-themed contests for elementary school students during this spooky season.

The writing and art contests will give students a chance to exhibit their creativity and potentially win a prize. While there are few guidelines, the main objective is to showcase anything related to Halloween.

State Assembly Member Edward Braunstein in Northeast Queens announced the launch of his annual Halloween Essay & Drawing Contest last week. Students in grades two through five who live or attend school in Assembly District 26 are welcome to apply by Monday, Nov. 4.

The district includes parts of Bayside, Bay Terrace, Douglaston, Little Neck, Glen Oaks and Bellerose

“As we welcome October, and with it all things Halloween, I’m inviting Northeast Queens students to get into the spirit and submit a spooky essay or drawing to my office’s annual contest,” said Assembly Member Edward Braunstein. “With the holiday just around the corner, I look forward to reviewing your creative entries as we prepare to celebrate.”

In neighboring District 28, Assembly Member Andrew Hevesi is teaming up with City Council Member Lynn Schulman for their own Halloween Writing and Poster Contest

Students in grades 1-5 who reside in either City Council District 29 or State Assembly District 28 are invited to apply by Friday, Oct. 25.

The districts include the neighborhoods of Forest Hills, Middle Village, Rego Park, Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill, and Glendale.

In both contests, one student from each grade will also take home a prize. All participants will receive a New York State Assembly Certificate of Merit or a citation from the city council.

Entries for both contests can be submitted by mail, email, or in person at the officials’ district offices. Creative submissions must include the student’s full name, grade, and school information.
