After decades of helping New Yorkers celebrate life’s biggest moments, Party City is throwing its final party—announcing the closure of all its stores, including its last two locations in Queens.

On Friday, Dec. 20, CEO Barry Litwin informed corporate employees during a meeting that the company would begin “winding down” operations immediately, marking the end of employment for its staff, according to CNN.

For nearly 40 years, Party City established itself as the nation’s largest and most recognizable party supply chain. The company currently operates 24 stores across New York City and Long Island.

Queens is home to two remaining Party City locations, one on Grand Avenue in Elmhurst and another on Rockaway Boulevard in Rosedale. These stores are part of the retailer’s broader New York City footprint, which includes two locations each in Manhattan and Staten Island, one in The Bronx, three in Brooklyn, and 14 across Long Island.

The announcement comes nearly a year after Party City declared bankruptcy in January 2023. By March, the company had already closed three New York City locations—two in Manhattan and one in The Bronx—amid a wave of 22 closures nationwide. Despite emerging from bankruptcy in April, the company faced ongoing financial struggles. Barry Litwin, appointed as CEO four months ago, was brought on in an attempt to stabilize the brand.
