The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center (JPAFHC) in Jamaica has upgraded its facilities with energy-efficient LED lighting through Con Edison’s Neighborhood Program.
The initiative aims to help small businesses and community organizations in Queens reduce energy consumption while alleviating stress on the local power grid.
JPAFHC, named after the late U.S. Congressman Joseph P. Addabbo, has been a cornerstone of the Rockaway community for decades. It provides vital healthcare services to underserved populations. With locations on Sutphin Boulevard and Guy Brewer Boulevard, the center offers comprehensive medical, dental, and behavioral health services, ensuring accessible care for thousands of residents each year.
As part of Con Edison’s non-wires solutions (NWS) initiative, the program provided JPAFHC with rebates and incentives to install approximately 16,000 square feet of LED lights at its Sutphin Boulevard location on April 4, 2024, and an additional 2,700 square feet at its Guy Brewer location on June 24, 2024. The upgrades support the health center’s efforts to lower energy costs, reduce its environmental impact, and maintain a welcoming environment for patients and staff.
“As a priority, we are committed to providing an aesthetically pleasing environment of care for our patients and team members,” said Renee Hastick-Motes, CEO of JPAFHC. “We are deeply grateful for Con Edison’s generosity and strategic vision in supporting community-based organizations through innovative approaches to energy efficiency.”
The improvements include new energy-efficient lamps, fixtures, and updated lighting control systems. These changes are expected to reduce energy usage and contribute to sustainability efforts in the Jamaica area.
“This initiative is a win-win for our organization and the entire neighborhood,” said Jennifer Benabe, Director of Facilities at JPAFHC. “Not only are we enhancing our facility with the latest lighting technology, but we are also helping to support a more sustainable, energy-efficient community. The process was seamless, and the savings are substantial.”
Con Edison’s Neighborhood Program focuses on reducing the strain on the energy grid during peak demand periods by offering incentives for energy-saving measures. For JPAFHC, rebates covered up to 100% of the costs for the LED lighting upgrades.
The program also offers incentives for HVAC and refrigeration upgrades, ensuring participating organizations receive upfront support without waiting for reimbursements.
