City Fresh Market enjoyed its grand opening on Friday, Jan. 24, with an energetic ribbon-cutting ceremony that brought together eager shoppers, elected officials, and community members.

The newly opened market, filling the space once occupied by Rite Aid, marks a new chapter for the Ridgewood community. It offers fresh produce, quality groceries, and a sense of excitement for the area.

The grand opening event featured a live DJ and free samples of its high-quality deli food. Shoppers were welcomed with balloons, colorful banners, and the much-anticipated ribbon-cutting ceremony that officially opened the doors to City Fresh Market’s newest location.

This new store at 583 Grandview Ave. is the chain’s 15th location across New York and New Jersey and its fifth Queens-based store. The chain, known for offering high-quality groceries and fresh produce at affordable prices, is committed to community and sustainability and aims to provide a convenient, neighborhood-friendly shopping experience.

“Another great location from the NSA and the A&E Group,” stated Samuel Collado, President of the National Supermarket Association (NSA). “Through the hard work of A&E, this has already been consolidated successfully.”

For many local residents, the arrival of City Fresh Market was a welcomed change. The space, which had been vacant since Rite Aid closed, needed revitalization, and the new supermarket is expected to fill an important gap for the community.

NSA General Secretary Pedro Goico also attended, emphasizing the importance of independent, local businesses. “We want to thank every single staff member who worked every day to take the place Rite Aid left empty for the community and give it quality, energy-efficient equipment,” he said.

“Everything that can be done to serve the community the right way — we’re here. Independent, small-business owners. This is not a corporation that came from another place. We’re New Yorkers from the neighborhood. A lot of us who work in the store were born and raised in this area.”

The opening of City Fresh Market was a cause for celebration among Ridgewood residents, many of whom had eagerly awaited the new store.

“The layout is great, and it’s nice to have something fresh, especially since we have so many kids in the area. The staff seem very friendly, which makes it best for us,” remarked Tina, a local resident.

Council Member Robert Holden, who represents Ridgewood, Maspeth, Middle Village, and Glendale across District 30 in Queens, also attended the ceremony and couldn’t contain his excitement.

“I feel like the neighborhood won the lottery here because not only is it a fresh market, but more importantly, we have a parking lot!” he exclaimed.

“Let me tell you what that means to this neighborhood. If you try to find a parking space, it’s impossible. This is a Godsend. I was so impressed that I want you to move to my neighborhood in Middle Village. It’s such a great market, and the prices are reasonable. Welcome to the neighborhood!”

Many others shared Holden’s sentiments. They were thrilled with the market’s convenient parking, something Ridgewood residents have long needed. Parking in the area can often be challenging, so the availability of spaces at City Fresh Market was a significant perk for those who drive.

In addition to providing parking, City Fresh Market is committed to offering a high-quality shopping experience. The spacious store includes a large produce section with fresh fruits and vegetables, a butcher’s counter, various dairy products, and a selection of packaged goods. The market also emphasizes energy-efficient operations, ensuring it operates sustainably while providing fresh, healthy food to its customers.

The grand opening event included special promotions and giveaways, including a raffle. Many shoppers left the store with bags full of fresh produce, bakery items, and household essentials, all at reasonable prices.

The team behind the market is eager to continue building strong relationships with local organizations, ensuring that the store remains a valuable asset to Ridgewood for years to come.

As the ribbon was cut and the first official customers entered the new market, it was clear that the market was more than just a new grocery store. It is a community gathering space, a place for fresh food, and a symbol of growth and renewal for Ridgewood. With its focus on quality, sustainability, and community engagement, City Fresh Market will surely become integral to the neighborhood’s future.
